When it’s time to get in the car, does your pooch plant his paws and refuse to budge? Your dog’s fear of cars may have come from a bad ride at an early age. So if your pup is afraid of the car, don’t get angry or overly forceful - this will only worsen the problem and reinforce his fear.
To help him overcome his car phobia, try desensitizing him to the vehicle. Start by giving him his meals near the car. Then feed him on the floor of the car with the car door open so he can stand outside and eat. After that, close the door while he chows down. And finally, when he jumps in the car easily, take him places that are fun. That way he won’t automatically associate a vehicle with a visit to the veterinarian. And don’t forget to reward him with treats for staying calm!
