Some dogs have little interest in high energy activities such as running, agility, racing, or playing frisbee. They prefer a laid-back lifestyle, and require little more than a twenty-minute walk twice a day. Among the breeds that fall into the canine couch potato category are the Bulldog, Shih Tzu, Mastiff, Great Pyranees, Saint Bernard, and Pekingese.
Couch potatoes vary greatly in size, from large and powerful to petite and winsome. And in spite of their lounge-loving tendencies, these dogs are not pushovers. They can be uncooperative, stubborn, and quick to take a leadership role in the absence of a calm, assertive human. Yes, they like their long naps, but they also need guidance, discipline, and regular exercise.
