What nutritional supplements help promote renal health?

Kidney disease is a serious health problem for cats and dogs, but giving your pet nutritional supplements may help ward off renal problems. Omega-three fatty acids top the list of supplements to combat canine and feline kidney disease. Found in over-the-counter fish oil capsules, omega-three reduces kidney inflammation. Some veterinarians also recommend vitamin e, which works in concert with the Omega-3, vitamin b complex, vitamin c, and potassium.

Before starting any new supplement regimen, talk to your veterinarian and ask about the proper dosage for your pet. And remember, no supplement will make up for poor quality nutrition, so feed your pet a high-quality, age-appropriate diet.
